Associate Engineer (for Computer Science students)

Sopra Steria is one of the largest players in the tech industry in Europe, known for its consulting, digital services and software development. The Polish branch, operating as the Global Delivery Center in Katowice since 2007, currently has around 1,000 specialists. The Digital Platform Services department specializes in cloud, operating systems, virtualization, databases, backup, storage, networking, and security. The Application Services department handles software development, data engineering, testing, CRM, ITSM, ERP platform integrations, and application management for customers in Scandinavia, Benelux, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the UK.

Must Have Qualifications:

• Student in Computer Science or related field.
• Good knowledge of C++, Python, or C#.
• Experience working with Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) on embedded platforms.
• Ability to containerize applications using Docker (IoT Edge).
• Knowledge of hardware platforms such as Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, ESP32, or STM32.
• Experience with data serialization using JSON or Protocol Buffers (Protobuf).
• Ability to buffer telemetry data during network connectivity loss.
• Understanding of IoT device constraints (RAM, power, wireless bandwidth).
• English proficiency for working with technical documentation.

Nice to Have Qualifications:

• Knowledge of time-series databases like InfluxDB or SQLite.
• Understanding wireless networking technologies: Wi‑Fi, GSM/LTE, LoRa.
• Knowledge of communication interfaces: UART, SPI, I2C.
• Understanding of UDP and TCP/IP protocols.
• Practical knowledge of protocols: MQTT, MAVLink, AMQP, WebSocket.

• Contribute to development and maintenance of software and IoT/IT system components.
• Support configuration, installation, and maintenance of systems, software, hardware, and network infrastructure.
• Support cybersecurity analysis and incident resolution.
• Prepare, execute, and document software tests including unit tests.
• Support system protection and reliability activities.
• Participate in system monitoring and production deployment preparations.
• Train users and provide technical support to customers and end users.
• Attend project, internal, and customer meetings.
• Escalate issues, risks, and unexpected situations to supervisors.
• Apply and adhere to established quality, security, and organizational standards and processes.
• Complete assigned tasks according to schedules, priorities, and procedures.
• Manage assigned tasks and keep supervisors informed of progress.
• Identify customer needs and communicate them to supervisors.
• Support development of solution prototypes when required.
• Suggest technical improvements and solutions to support project delivery.
• Understand project objectives and customer business needs.
• Participate in training on the organization's methodologies, processes, and standards.
• Present completed assignments, experience, and competencies as part of team activities.
