Staff Backend Product Engineer, Customer Plans (all genders)

HelloFresh is a global food company with a large technology organization, HelloTech, consisting of over 1000 people building digital products that power end-to-end food experiences including meal kits, ready-to-eat meals, pet food, and premium meat & seafood. The role is part of the Consumer Mega Alliance, Consumer Core Tribe, within the Plans squad, focused on the Customer Plans Domain which impacts millions of users.

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in microservices and distributed event-driven architectures.
• Expert-level proficiency in Go or JVM languages.
• Proven track record of architectural decisions for large-scale distributed systems and integrations with applications and UIs.
• Advanced experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures, including production operations at scale.
• Extensive experience building event-driven architectures using message bus technologies (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS/SNS).
• Deep expertise with relational and NoSQL database technologies, including performance optimization and schema design.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as part of regular workflow.
• Ability to mentor engineers and drive technical standards across teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with senior stakeholders and distributed teams.
• Familiarity with e-commerce, subscription-based business models, and GraphQL integration is a significant advantage.
• Strong product sense with ability to back opinions with data and user evidence.
• Ownership mentality with a bias to ship and complete tasks.
• Experience building distributed systems in production with event-driven and asynchronous flows, clear service contracts, and designing for partial failure.

• Work on the architecture, design, and technical strategy for complex microservices systems, establishing patterns and best practices across multiple teams.
• Drive technical decision-making and architectural reviews to ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability of the Plans domain.
• Conduct analysis, document detailed specifications, and ensure all requirements align with strategic and technical goals.
• Lead critical technical initiatives and cross-team projects, collaborating with technical leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Drive adoption of AI-powered tools and methodologies to accelerate development and improve quality.
• Mentor engineers fostering engineering excellence and operational thinking.
• Take technical lead on backend-heavy product problems, designing, building, and operating reliable services and systems at scale.
• Operate and continuously improve production systems you build, including instrumentation and monitoring.
• Work beyond your specialization when needed to solve problems.
