Staff Backend Product Engineer, Operations Technology (all genders)

HelloFresh's HelloTech organisation in Warsaw is its global technology backbone with over 1000 people, building digital products for end-to-end food experiences, including meal kits, ready-to-eat meals, pet food, and premium meat & seafood. HelloTech creates platforms supporting subscription-based, direct-to-consumer models with technology spanning customer-facing apps, personalization, pricing, forecasting, supply chain optimization, and food waste reduction. The organisation operates through autonomous, cross-functional alliances owning specific products or domains end-to-end, delivering scalable, data-driven products used internationally.

• Hands-on experience using AI tooling daily (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) with practical knowledge of guiding AI output quality.
• Extensive backend engineering expertise, ideally within JVM-based ecosystems (Kotlin, Java), and strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Proven track record designing and operating highly scalable, event-driven systems using messaging technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
• Ability to translate complex business or operational requirements into actionable technical roadmaps across teams.
• Solid understanding of modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes) and observability practices.
• Strong fluency in Kotlin or Java and experience with event-driven and asynchronous flows, including observability and data layer management.
• Collaborative, low-ego problem solver with strong technical judgment and mentorship capability.
• Full ownership and bias to ship, finishing tasks completely.
• Product sense with opinions backed by data and user evidence.

• Lead cross-squad technical initiatives to design and build modular, globally scalable backend solutions for complex supply chain operations.
• Act as the technical bridge between engineering squads and operational stakeholders (Procurement, Production, Data) to architect reliable, long-term systems.
• Define and drive engineering best practices regarding system design, code quality, and maintainability across the Food Systems Alliance.
• Optimize complex data workflows and event-driven architectures for production and scaling.
• Provide technical leadership via architecture reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
• Shape the technical roadmap by identifying architectural bottlenecks and proposing improvements.
• Take technical lead on backend-heavy product problems, designing, building, and operating reliable services at scale.
• Work beyond own specialization when required.
• Operate and improve systems in production, viewing shipping as the start of the learning cycle.
