Domain Architect - Dia R&D

Roche is a global healthcare company dedicated to advancing science and ensuring access to healthcare. The role is within the SPG Enterprise Architecture Business Partnering Functions team, focusing on Diagnostics R&D. The Diagnostics R&D domain includes teams such as DIA R&D Labs, Computational Science and Engineering, Instrumentation, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and Portfolio & Project Management.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 7+ years of IT and architecture experience.
• Deep domain experience in Diagnostics R&D including scientific, clinical, and engineering processes.
• Proven history as Domain or Enterprise Architect in complex global organizations.
• Skilled in designing target-state architectures and capability roadmaps for R&D.
• Experience with cloud-native architecture on AWS including microservices, event-driven patterns, API-first design, infrastructure-as-code.
• Knowledge of data architecture for R&D: lakehouse patterns, streaming and batch pipelines, data lineage, and observability.
• Familiarity with regulatory-aware architecture in Diagnostics or Life Sciences (IEC 62304, 21 CFR Part 11, EU IVDR, GxP).
• Experience in application portfolio rationalization including dependency mapping and governance.
• Cross-domain technical fluency across clinical development, computational science, laboratory informatics (LIMS, ELN), and instrumentation.
• Knowledge of architecture frameworks like TOGAF.
• Experience with flexible delivery methodologies prioritizing practical outcomes.
• Pragmatic approach to developing sustainable, outcome-driven solutions.

Strongly Preferred:

• AI/ML platform architecture including model serving, GPU orchestration, ML pipelines.
• Agentic AI patterns including tool orchestration, agent-to-agent protocols, human-in-the-loop design, and use of LLMs and SLM in Life Sciences.
• Instrumentation and lab systems integration including edge-to-cloud telemetry and OT/IT boundary in diagnostics.
• Ability to govern through influence, reference architectures, and design reviews.
• Understanding of Hardware Development patterns.

Strategic Business Partnering:

• Act as strategic liaison between SPG EA and Diagnostics R&D.
• Align business priorities with multi-year roadmaps and target-state architectures.

Architecture Network Orchestration:

• Lead the Diagnostics R&D architecture network.
• Promote shared strategic priorities and alignment among Domain and Solution Architects.

Architecture Governance Leadership:

• Provide leadership for governance activities across Diagnostics R&D.
• Oversee architecture deliverables, technology guardrails, and non-functional requirements.

Critical Program Delivery:

• Drive success of large technology programs in Diagnostics R&D.
• Provide architectural oversight to ensure business value delivery.

Domain Architecture Deliverables:

• Lead development and maintenance of core architecture artifacts.
• Ensure data accuracy across architecture and RDT toolchain.

Portfolio & Investment Alignment:

• Collaborate with Portfolio Management and Functional Heads on investment decisions.
• Evaluate strategy impacts and manage technical debt.

Technology Innovation & Vendor Evaluation:

• Monitor technology trends and evaluate vendors for alignment with Diagnostics R&D needs.
