Senior Tunneling Engineer (k/m)

The position supports the design and delivery of large diameter Circulating Water System (CWS) intake and outfall tunnels, a temporary water discharge tunnel, and a fish recovery and return system tunnel for the AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant project in Poland. It is part of the Bechtel G&HES team responsible for coordinating tunnel and shaft engineering activities across all project phases. The project involves building tunnels in soft ground and mostly offshore.

• MS degree (or international equivalent) in engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, or tunneling engineering.
• Minimum 11 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in design or execution of soft ground tunnels and/or deep shafts using TBM, slurry, earth pressure balance (EPB), or similar mechanized methods.
• Experience supporting engineering deliverables for underground infrastructure projects.
• Experience with large diameter marine intake or outfall tunnels.
• Familiarity with Design Build delivery models for underground work.
• Experience supporting EPC execution of tunneling projects.
• Knowledge of European tunneling standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary construction teams.

Engineering Oversight & Deliverables:

• Support design development and technical review of tunneling design consultants' submittals.
• Review design basis documents, geotechnical baseline reports, shaft and tunnel calculations, temporary works concepts, and TBM selection studies.
• Evaluate constructability, installation methods, and execution risks for marine shafts and soft ground tunneling systems.
• Support development and implementation of Project Execution Plan (PEP) for tunnels and shafts.

Planning & Scheduling:

• Develop and maintain a Level 3 schedule for tunnel and shaft design and construction.
• Interface with planning and construction teams to align engineering deliverables with execution.
• Support planning for Design & Build delivery phase of underground work.

Contracting & Procurement Support:

• Assist in defining contracting strategies for tunneling and shaft construction.
• Support preparation of EPC package Scope Requirements for underground works.
• Identify and prequalify tunneling contractors and specialist subcontractors.
• Participate in technical capability assessments and audits of prospective contractors.

Regulatory & Permitting Support:

• Support identification and integration of Polish regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical input to Environmental Impact Assessment documentation and permit submissions.

Execution Phase Support:

• Assist coordination between engineering and construction teams during execution.
• Support development of staffing plans including local hiring and training.
• Provide technical oversight of tunneling and shaft construction activities during execution phase.
