Java Software Engineer (AWS)

HL Tech is the technology hub of Hargreaves Lansdown, a privately owned UK financial services group trusted by approximately 2 million clients and supporting more than £172 billion in savings and investments. The team in Poland and the UK jointly design, build, and run platforms used by HL clients. The role is part of the Trade Execution team responsible for systems connecting clients with financial markets including trade routing, order execution and broker integrations.

• Strong commercial experience building backend applications in Java using Spring Boot
• Practical AWS experience gained in production environments
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs and microservices
• Experience owning services in production, including monitoring, incident investigation and reliability improvements
• Experience working with distributed, event-driven or highly available systems
• Understanding of observability practices, including metrics, tracing, logging and monitoring
• Understanding of testing, maintainability, security and engineering best practices
• Experience with containers and Kubernetes
• English language proficiency at C1 level and Polish at B2 level or higher

Nice to have:

• Financial services, investment or trading systems experience
• JPA or Hibernate
• Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools
• Exposure to TypeScript, Node.js or React

• Build and improve backend services using Java and Spring Boot
• Design and implement REST APIs and multi-service flows
• Develop and operate cloud services in AWS
• Write secure, maintainable, and testable code supported by automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
• Support business-critical production systems and investigate incidents
• Use metrics, tracing, logging and monitoring to improve reliability and observability
• Contribute to solution design, technical discussions, and code reviews
• Collaborate with product and engineering colleagues across Poland and the UK to design, build and improve trading services

All work must be performed from Poland. Occasional office visits may be requested depending on team collaboration needs.
