Scala Engineer

Synerise delivers an all-in-one behavioral data platform enhanced by AI, serving over 30 markets in Retail, Banking, eCommerce, Automotive, Insurance, and Telco, processing 150 billion transactions annually. The company is also developing BaseModel, a foundation model for behavioral data for enterprise Data Science teams. The Backend Team works with technologies including Scala, Kafka, ElasticSearch, ScyllaDB, Azure, GCP, and Kubernetes within a microservices architecture.

• Strong Scala skills with production experience in an effect system such as Cats Effect, ZIO, or Akka/Pekko.
• Experience designing or contributing to event-driven systems addressing ordering guarantees, idempotency, replay, and failure modes.
• Strong working knowledge of Apache Kafka, including partitioning, delivery guarantees, consumer groups, rebalance issues, and consumer lag.
• Hands-on Kubernetes skills to diagnose pod issues, resource limits, HPA behavior, and networking.
• Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases and understanding their appropriate use.
• Ability to design for scale and growth including partitioning, sharding, tenant isolation, and backpressure.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in distributed environments.

Nice to have:

• Solid grasp of JVM internals including GC behavior, profiling, heap and thread dump analysis.
• Experience with observability tools like distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry, Jaeger), structured logging, and metrics.
• Experience with microservices architecture pitfalls such as distributed transactions, eventual consistency, and contract versioning.
• Experience in cloud environments such as Azure and GCP, with primary stack on AKS.

• Design architecture and patterns for processing and storing high-volume datasets.
• Build software with a strong focus on performance and optimization.
• Translate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed designs.
• Analyze large data stores and generate meaningful insights.
