Senior Full-stack Developer – Web GIS / Geospatial

Senior Full-stack Developer position for an international project developing a global settlement mapping system supporting exposure components within the European crisis management system.

• Higher education degree with minimum required years of IT experience depending on degree level (10 years for Master's, 12 years for Bachelor's/Engineering, 17 years for secondary education).
• At least 15 years of experience in creating web pages/applications including front-end, back-end, and web mastering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in geospatial web programming.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in UI/UX design.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with code and data management tools including Git and legacy systems using SVN.
• Deep knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, jQuery, Kendo UI Professional for jQuery, OpenLayers, legacy JavaScript ES3/ES5, modern ES6+, Webpack, and Vite.
• Backend experience with Java, Node.js, or PHP, specifically Spring Boot, Hibernate, REST API, lightweight PHP server-side functionalities, Node.js for offline scripts, automation, data transformation, SQLite, and SQL database access.
• Certification or professional training in IT Security / Web Application Security.
• IBM Data Science Professional Certificate or equivalent.
• IBM AI Engineering Professional Certificate or equivalent covering AI/ML methods related to scientific/geospatial data products.
• Certification or professional training in digital accessibility.
• Certification or professional training in UX research.
• English language proficiency minimum B2+.
• Italian language proficiency minimum B2+.

Nice to have:

• Experience with large scientific/geospatial data sets.
• Experience in Web GIS application architecture design.
• Practical knowledge of web application accessibility and security standards.
• Experience building applications for users with limited network bandwidth.

• Develop and maintain full-stack functionalities from front-end architecture and user interactions through backend logic, APIs, and database integration.
• Monitor, test, and optimize Web GIS application architecture focusing on rendering performance, network efficiency, accessibility, and scalability.
• Design and develop new architecture components and improve UX.
• Design data transformation processes and automate scientific and geospatial data conversions including XLS, TIFF to JSON, GeoJSON, and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF.
• Implement web application security best practices including data validation, XSS protection, and vulnerability remediation per OWASP Top 10.
• Develop responsive applications for multiple browsers and devices and integrate with REST APIs.
• Create server-side proxy services and endpoints.
• Prepare graphic elements, interactive data visualizations, infographics, and data-driven publication templates compliant with visual identification.
• Test, debug, analyze problems, and prepare technical documentation.
