Database Migrations Engineer - EMEA

• Genuine strength across both MySQL and Postgres, optimising for approximately 80% capability in each.
• Direct experience with database migrations in a customer-facing role, owning technical execution.
• Productisation instinct to identify and package repeatable migration patterns without over-engineering.
• Strong written and asynchronous communication skills.
• Comfort operating in a role where part of the scope is self-defined and shaped.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with database tooling or infrastructure companies such as PlanetScale, Percona, or Vitess.
• Experience building tooling or automation around migration workflows.
• Familiarity with AWS-based infrastructure or PaaS environments.
• Experience with AWS DMS or similar migration tooling.
• Public writing, speaking, or teaching experience about database topics.
• Some familiarity with PHP applications.

• Execute database migrations with enterprise and Private Cloud customers, primarily MySQL and Postgres.
• Assume ownership of the PlanetScale relationship and migration work.
• Productise repeatable downtime-tolerant migration patterns including documentation, decision logic, and edge cases.
• Automate recurring migration requests to reduce manual effort.
• Act as a generalist migration resource for broader app and service migrations onto Private Cloud.
• Write clear documentation, build runbooks, and create reference materials to support Sales, Customer Success, and engineering teams.
• Monitor competing database offerings like PlanetScale, Aurora, and Percona, advising on pricing, instance classes, and capabilities changes needed to remain competitive.
