• 8+ years of experience with expertise in architecture and Node.js
• Ability to anticipate future use cases and design to minimize cost of change with cost trade-offs
• Anticipate scaling limits and capacity implications across domains before they bind
• Review others' designs constructively to identify scalability or cost issues early
• Work comfortably as a technical peer to Staff engineers and engineering managers
• Design services for iterative, autonomous development with bounded contexts and minimized cross-service dependencies
• Design for expected peak load and validate service limits by testing
• Build components with documentation and migration paths for adoption by other teams
• Design with abuse in mind by default, including rate limits, velocity checks, and idempotency
• Ability to read and explain every line of AI-generated code shipped
• Testing coverage for edge and failure cases beyond happy paths
• Working command of OWASP Top 10 and secure-by-default practices (secrets management, input validation, data handling)
• Strong written English skills due to asynchronous collaboration via RFCs and reviews
• Collaborative style bringing options with trade-offs and arguing with reasoning rather than seniority

• Dig into an existing multi-product architecture to understand its design before proposing changes
• Deliver honest, evidence-based assessments of code and design quality across product lines
• Write and review RFCs and ADRs for systems including assumptions, failure modes, capacity, and security
• Design extend-vs-rebuild decisions with migration paths that are incremental, reversible, and have rollback stories
• Work with real constraints such as multi-currency payments, fraud and abuse exposure, PCI DSS scope, third-party supplier integrations, and traffic spikes up to 65x baseline
