Software Engineer II - Backend - Payments

Payward is the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks, building a globally accessible financial infrastructure platform to advance an open, global financial system. Kraken, founded in 2011, is a crypto platform serving over 10 million individuals and institutions worldwide, offering spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services for individual and institutional clients.

• 3+ years of experience in software engineering
• Proficiency in writing clean, scalable backend code in a systems language, preferably Rust or Node/Typescript
• Commitment to a security-first mindset when designing systems
• Ability to autonomously debug issues across OS, network, and application layers
• Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies including RPC protocols, Kafka, and event-driven systems

• Design and implement robust services and libraries for payments integration across Kraken products
• Write reusable, testable, and highly efficient codebase
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Frontend Engineering
• Partner closely with crypto native engineers
