Senior Software Engineer – Python / React / Data

PortBlueSky is building an internal analytical platform for a major multinational enterprise. The product integrates data processing, interactive workflows, visualisation, and AI-assisted analysis in a modern web application. The team is small and focused on creating a production-ready application from an early concept, with opportunities to influence architecture and product decisions.

• Strong professional experience in Python and building web applications or APIs with FastAPI or comparable frameworks.
• Professional experience with React and modern frontend development.
• Ability and willingness to work across backend, frontend, or full-stack engineering.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, including schema design and querying.
• Practical experience with Docker and Docker Compose.
• Good understanding of cloud architecture and deployment concepts, preferably AWS.
• Practical knowledge of development workflows including Git, pull requests, CI/CD pipelines, build artefacts, Docker images, automated testing, and security/secret scanning.
• Strong data-handling skills using tools such as pandas, Polars, SQL, and Jupyter.
• Experience using modern AI-assisted or agentic development tools productively.
• Pragmatic engineering mindset balancing maintainability and iteration.
• Ability to work productively amid evolving requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and professional fluency in English.

• Build end-to-end product features by designing, implementing, testing, and deploying functionality across a Python/FastAPI backend and React frontend.
• Shape the architecture to create a maintainable, production-grade application with clear technical boundaries and engineering practices.
• Process, transform, validate, and analyse structured data from formats including CSV, JSON, Excel, and databases.
• Design clean application interfaces and data models using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL.
• Develop modern, responsive user experiences in React and collaborate on presentation of analytical results.
• Containerise applications and manage deployment workflows using Docker and Docker Compose in CI/CD cloud environments.
• Participate in pull requests, automated testing, CI/CD, security scanning, code reviews, and continuous development workflow improvements.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and Claude Code while maintaining engineering standards.
• Collaborate in sprint planning, design discussions, reviews, and reprioritisation in an agile team.
• Communicate risks and ideas early to technical and non-technical stakeholders for pragmatic decision making.
