Senior Python Engineer

CloudFerro creates technologies used by European leaders in science and the space sector, including ESA, EUMETSAT, ECMWF, Mercator Ocean International, DLR, and EGI. The company is focused on Earth Observation and supports analyses to better understand our planet. The role involves co-creating a sovereign European cloud platform as a complete PaaS stack based on Kubernetes and open source, covering serverless, managed databases, MLOps, monitoring, and observability. The team designs the foundations of the platform with full ownership of architectural decisions, impacting the future direction of European cloud infrastructure.

• Very good knowledge of Python.
• Practical experience with at least one framework such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Understanding of REST API design principles including CRUD operations, error handling, data validation, and versioning.
• Experience building persistence layers using SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (Redis), including data modeling and migration management.
• Experience implementing distributed solutions for multi-tenant environments and large-scale systems.
• Competence with Kubernetes for deployment, configuration, and diagnostics of services.
• Proficient use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Copilot) as a regular part of engineering workflow.
• Responsibility for solutions from design to production deployment.

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of Go.
• Good understanding of Linux, Kubernetes, and cloud environments.
• Experience with asynchronous programming (asyncio) and message queue systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka).
• Skills in containerization (Docker) and building CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with observability topics such as structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
• Operational experience with PostgreSQL performance analysis and query planning.
• Experience working as a fullstack engineer.

• Develop components that form parts of PaaS services.
• Design solutions for multi-tenant and large-scale distributed systems.
• Collaborate with Product Manager to align with business requirements.
• Create prototypes and proof of concepts for new solutions.
• Enhance existing codebases and implement new components.
• Make technical decisions considering security, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Maintain code quality through code review, automated tests, refactoring, and engineering best practices.
• Diagnose complex issues at the intersection of PaaS services, common services, and cloud infrastructure.
• Cooperate with other technical teams.
• Develop and maintain documentation and standards.
