2027 Summer Intern, MS/PhD, Software Engineer, RO Performance team, Release Evaluation (Simulation)

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company focused on building the Waymo Driver, a fully autonomous driving system that powers a ride-hail service and other vehicle platforms. Founded as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has driven over 100 million miles on public roads and billions in simulation.

• Currently pursuing a graduate degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
• Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals, particularly in data structures and algorithms
• Strong software development skills with proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., C++, Java, Python) and SQL
• Desire to learn and work extensively in C++
• Familiarity with or strong interest in foundational concepts related to distributed systems, data processing pipelines, or operating systems
• Familiarity with statistical concepts necessary for interpreting large datasets

Nice to have:

• Strong general coding skills and the ability to write robust software, with C++ proficiency
• Experience or coursework related to distributed systems, operating systems (specifically task scheduling), or data processing pipelines
• Familiarity with software profiling and benchmarking
• Experience working with large datasets and utilizing data analysis tools to evaluate system performance

• Collaborate with the team to analyze experiment results, document findings, and help integrate the most successful strategies into production
• Prototype scheduling algorithms aimed at smoothing out computational load
• Run benchmarks to analyze the speed, throughput, and resource efficiency of related systems and specific implementations

This position requires current enrollment in a Master's or PhD graduate program. Interns must work onsite in a hybrid model in Warsaw, Poland. Selection is on a rolling basis until the role is filled. Candidates should apply individually to each role of interest.
