Senior Software Engineer (Splunk)

The Splunk Metadata Catalog (MDC) team is part of the core Splunk Platform organization. They build a high-scale Knowledge Graph that enables users to discover data assets, map relationships, and trace data lineage across ecosystems. The team is central to the Cisco Data Fabric strategy, working on enterprise-grade data platforms.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field with 6 years of experience, or Master's degree with 3 years of experience.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in an object-oriented or systems language such as Go, Java, or C++, with experience designing, developing, and debugging production-grade services.
• Experience building and operating cloud-native microservices using AWS, Azure, or GCP, alongside containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, concurrency, distributed systems architecture, and RESTful/gRPC API design.
• Proven background delivering software in fast-paced Agile environments with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
• Track record of diagnosing and solving performance bottlenecks and ensuring high availability in distributed environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with graph databases such as Neo4j, AWS Neptune, Apache AGE and query languages/frameworks like Cypher, Gremlin, GraphQL.
• Experience with metadata catalogs, data governance frameworks, schema registries, or knowledge graph platforms.
• Familiarity with distributed message brokers and streaming platforms like Apache Kafka and RabbitMQ.
• Experience instrumenting services with observability metrics, distributed tracing, and logging frameworks such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Splunk.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across distributed global engineering teams.

• Own development and implementation of complex, high-impact features and microservices within the Metadata Catalog platform.
• Collaborate with Technical Leaders and Architects to translate product requirements into modular, scalable, and resilient distributed components.
• Optimize robust, low-latency applications for large-scale graph relationships and data lineage queries.
• Champion a Developer Owned Quality mindset by authoring comprehensive unit, integration, and performance tests.
• Take active ownership of services in production, including monitoring service health, debugging distributed issues, participating in on-call rotations, and conducting post-incident reviews.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through detailed code reviews and design discussions.
