C++ Software Engineer, Splunk Search Experience

The position is within the Splunk Search Experience backend team at Cisco, focusing on building the core search platform powering Cisco Data Fabric, transforming machine data into AI-ready intelligence. Cisco is a technology company working to provide security, visibility, and insights across digital infrastructures globally.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in coding with C++ and the ability to learn Python, Java, or Go.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and software design.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using associated tools.
• Experience working on distributed systems such as databases, file systems, and storage systems.
• Experience with developing CI/CD systems, test automation frameworks, and integrating AI coding assistants and agentic workflows.
• Experience with REST, gRPC, or similar communication paradigms.
• Experience working with public cloud services such as AWS, GCP, and Azure.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Passion for solving challenging problems and exploring new technologies.
• Knowledge of deploying and managing services in Kubernetes clusters.
• Knowledge of query languages and processing like SQL and SPL.

• Design, develop, and launch features for core search functionalities across Splunk's products.
• Build robust, fault-tolerant, and scalable distributed systems in multi-threaded/multi-process environments.
• Define and perform search language layer optimizations and transformations.
• Analyze and improve reliability and scalability of search execution pipelines.
• Diagnose and solve customer incidents and product issues, identifying gaps and designing enhancements.
• Hire, mentor junior engineers, and support talent growth on the team.
