Principal Software Engineer, Linux Kernel - Isovalent

Isovalent, now part of Cisco, is the company founded by the creators of Cilium and eBPF. Cisco Isovalent builds open-source software and enterprise solutions solving networking, security, and observability needs for modern cloud native infrastructure. Their flagship technology is Cilium.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related fields.
• More than 2 years of upstream Linux kernel track record.
• Over 5 years of experience in C.
• Public track record of open-source code commits is required.
• Preferred: expert knowledge in Linux systems design, performance, security, networking, and the Linux kernel.
• Preferred: more than 5 years of upstream Linux kernel track record.
• Preferred: over 5 years of experience in C, BPF, and Go.
• Desire to write high quality and efficient code.
• Highly self-driven individual.
• Experience designing and implementing APIs.
• Experience with production systems at scale, with networking background as a plus.
• Experience in Kubernetes, Cloud Native workloads, and/or distributed systems.

• Lead design and development of new Linux kernel functionality in BPF, the networking stack, and security subsystems.
• Integrate new functionality into Cilium/Tetragon.
• Collaborate with a small technical team on forward-looking features.
• Actively participate in the upstream Linux kernel community.
• Engage across engineering, product, and customers to align future technical direction with business needs.
• Present work at technical conferences such as KubeCon, Linux Plumbers, and LSF/MM/BPF.
• Contribute to and uphold engineering best practices, code quality, and operational excellence.
