Team Leader, SRE

• Leadership experience of an SRE, infrastructure, or platform engineering team with ownership of career growth and performance.
• Coaching skills in both technical craft and soft skills.
• Ability to handle underperformance with clarity and empathy.
• Experience in hiring engineers and evaluating technical talent.
• Skill in reading team dynamics and conflict resolution.
• Ability to foster team commitment to company goals.
• Hands-on site reliability, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure engineering expertise.
• Experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
• Experience managing AWS at meaningful scale.
• Experience building, enabling, and scaling AI infrastructure.
• Knowledge of observability (o11y) practices and principles.
• Infrastructure as code experience using Terraform.
• Experience with CI/CD systems such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
• Proficiency with Docker and shell scripting.
• Experience running reliability practices including incident response, on-call, SLOs, error budgets.
• Understanding of regulated environments.
• Ability to prioritize operational load versus project work and protect team focus.
• Strong written communication skills for asynchronous leadership.
• Ability to build cross-team relationships.

Nice to have:

• Working knowledge of backend languages such as Elixir, Java, Clojure, Node.js, Python.
• Experience with modern observability tools and concepts like OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, and Honeycomb.
• Database operations expertise, especially PostgreSQL or Aurora performance and tuning.
• Experience with Linux systems outside cloud environments.
• Security skills from both defensive and offensive perspectives.
• Cloud cost management and FinOps experience.
• Experience growing small teams and establishing hiring standards.

Your people:

• Own full career lifecycle of reports: onboarding, feedback, performance assessment, progression, and hiring.
• Manage team health, dynamics, and retrospectives.
• Serve as the team’s spokesperson to engineering and senior leadership.

Delivery:

• Define and prioritize SRE team goals.
• Manage support rotation and on-call model.

The platform:

• Own core infrastructure: Kubernetes, AWS, PostgreSQL, DNS, TLS, CI infrastructure.
• Oversee reliability practices: SLOs, error budgets, incident response, observability stack.
• Partner with Security team on threats, patching, infrastructure controls, audit, and compliance.
• Manage vendor relationships including renewals and commercial interactions.
