• Expertise in Databricks platform-level architecture including account and workspace split, metastores, catalogs, workspace strategy, environment isolation, and permission models
• Knowledge of Unity Catalog end-to-end features such as managed/external tables, external locations, row and column protection, lineage, system tables, and data sharing
• Understanding of platform compute and consumption models including cluster and warehouse types, serverless options, policies, pools, tagging, spending analysis, and forecasting
• Experience with platform network isolation: customer-managed networking, private endpoints, removal of public access, storage restrictions, and audit logging
• Familiarity with medallion architecture and semantic layer design for application and reporting consumption
• Experience with ingestion techniques including incremental file ingestion, streaming, declarative pipelines, change data handling, federated access without copying
• Knowledge of delivery and environment promotion using portable project bundles, source control integration, catalog parameterization, and automated tests
• Deep design knowledge of Azure services: App Service, Front Door, WAF, Key Vault, Container Registry, App Insights, Log Analytics, Entra ID
• Infrastructure as code skills, preferably with Bicep
• Experience in external identity design: registration, invitation, MFA, conditional access, organization association, role-based access, account lifecycle, audit logging
• Proven practice of architecture review and documented architectural decisions

• Reviews current cloud environments including subscriptions, resource groups, networking, access and security models, workspace structure, compute patterns, storage, deployment, monitoring, and cost controls
• Produces recommendations on platform paths considering modifications, new builds, or phased hybrid approaches with risk and cost considerations
• Decides the number and purpose of workspaces and catalog structure, managing environments, data domains, permissions, and cost
• Designs target data architecture layers: raw, cleaned, curated, serving, feature layer, ingestion, transformation, orchestration, semantic layer, and reporting support
• Defines naming, ownership, classification, lineage conventions, and access rules
• Designs data security model including managed/external tables, external locations, storage credentials, row filters, column masks, and external consumption scope
• Defines platform network model with customer-managed virtual networks, private access to storage/control plane, and removal of public exposure
• Builds compute and cost models including cluster types, policies, tagging, spend forecasting, and chargeback
• Designs production landing zones for external applications with isolated subscriptions, virtual networks, private endpoints, tenants, container registries, and secrets stores
• Owns application and integration architecture covering service layer, data consumption, external authentication, perimeter protection, and observability
• Produces decision records, diagrams, traceability matrices, and leads architecture reviews
