Senior Data Engineer

BlackLine is a technology-based company specializing in cloud software that automates and controls the financial close process. Founded in 2001, it aims to modernize finance and accounting functions, delivering innovative SaaS solutions globally. This role supports their AI-powered Invoice-to-Cash solution, a market-leading platform that enhances accounts receivable processes through intelligent automation.

• Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake including data modelling, performance tuning, cost optimization, clustering, and Snowflake-native security.
• Solid proficiency in Power BI, including building semantic models with DAX and Power Query, report design, row-level security, and incremental refresh.
• Proven experience building and operating ELT/ETL pipelines using dbt, Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent.
• Expert-level SQL skills and proficiency in at least one general-purpose language, preferably Python, for data processing and automation.
• Ability to use AI-driven development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to improve engineering velocity and quality.
• Strong data quality and observability mindset with experience implementing monitoring, alerting, and testing in data pipelines.
• Ability to work independently from ambiguous requirements to delivery of reliable data products.
• Excellent communication skills for translating technical concepts to business requirements and collaborating across time zones.

Nice to have:

• Experience in regulated industries such as finance, accounting, or fintech with data governance and compliance sensitivity.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and cloud-native data architectures on Azure or AWS (including Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, AWS Glue).
• Experience with streaming or event-driven ingestion using Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or similar technologies.
• Knowledge of Responsible AI principles and building trustworthy AI/ML data infrastructure.
• Contribution to open-source data tooling or interest in modern data stack patterns.

• Build and govern robust ELT/ETL data pipelines using tools like dbt, Apache Airflow, and Azure Data Factory.
• Develop enterprise-grade Power BI reports and dashboards, including semantic models and row-level security.
• Contribute to and evolve the end-to-end data platform architecture on Snowflake.
• Apply best-in-class data modelling practices with modular, well-tested data models.
• Use and promote AI-driven development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to accelerate pipeline development and query optimization.
• Integrate data quality frameworks, automated testing, and monitoring into pipelines.
• Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing to raise technical standards.
• Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Finance stakeholders to translate data needs into reliable data products.
