Staff Backend Product Engineer, Operations Technology

HelloFresh is a global food company with a technology backbone called HelloTech, employing over 1000 people. HelloTech builds digital products that support HelloFresh's end-to-end food experience including meal kits, ready-to-eat meals, specialty foods, and operates on a subscription-based, direct-to-consumer model. The role supports the Food Systems Alliance within HelloTech, focusing on scalable software products for global supply chain operations, working from the Warsaw office.

• Hands-on experience working with AI tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) with practical use of AI agents.
• Extensive backend engineering expertise with Golang and JVM-based ecosystems (Kotlin or Java).
• Proven track record designing and operating scalable, event-driven systems using messaging technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
• Ability to translate complex business or operational requirements into technical roadmaps.
• Solid understanding of modern cloud infrastructure including AWS and Kubernetes, and observability practices.
• Fluency in Golang or Java with experience building distributed systems featuring event-driven and asynchronous flows.
• Collaborative, low-ego problem-solving approach, strong technical judgment, and mentoring ability.
• Full ownership mentality with focus on shipping and completing work.
• Strong product sense backed by data and user evidence.

• Lead cross-squad technical initiatives to design and build modular, globally scalable backend solutions for complex supply chain operations.
• Act as the technical bridge between engineering squads and operational stakeholders to architect reliable, long-term systems.
• Define and drive engineering best practices around system design, code quality, and maintainability.
• Optimize complex data workflows and event-driven architectures to support production and scaling.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
• Shape the technical roadmap by identifying architectural bottlenecks and proposing improvements.
• Take technical lead on backend-heavy product problems to design, build, and operate reliable services and systems.
• Work beyond specialization when needed, using specialization as an anchor.
• Operate and monitor systems in production, continuously improving them.
