Liferay Technical Architect

WPP Enterprise Solutions designs, builds, and operates growth systems for businesses, specializing in business transformation and marketing modernization across 40+ markets with 12,000 experts. They partner with companies like Adobe, AWS, Braze, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, and Shopify and are recognized leaders in Commerce Services and CX Strategy Consulting.

• Strong hands-on Java engineering skills, actively coding.
• Proven Liferay DXP development experience with OSGi modules, Service Builder, client extensions, headless/REST APIs, fragments, and workflow.
• Experience with Liferay Commerce or comparable commerce platforms, including catalogues, pricing, channels, carts, and order flow.
• Solid integration engineering skills including REST, messaging, enterprise integration patterns, and error handling.
• Confident with relational databases, query performance, and data modeling.
• Practical cloud experience and ability to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience leading engineers via code reviews, pairing, and technical direction.
• Experience building solutions consumable by managed service or application support teams.
• Knowledge of observability, logging, monitoring, and alerting as part of the build.
• Clear written and spoken English and ability to produce useful technical documentation.
• Comfortable working in distributed, multi-location teams across UK and India.

Nice to have:

• Liferay certification or contribution to the Liferay community.
• Experience with validated or regulated environments (GxP, CSV, data residency).
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and streaming platforms.
• Knowledge of caching strategies at scale including CDN layers.
• Experience tuning Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
• Experience in a blended change and run operational model.

• Write production code including Liferay customization, backend services, and integrations, handling complex tasks.
• Lead a distributed engineering team daily, managing technical delivery through sprints.
• Conduct code reviews and maintain code quality through standards, testing, and pairing.
• Break down architecture into buildable work and challenge designs as needed.
• Own the build and release pipelines, environments, and branching strategies.
• Debug and fix complex issues across Liferay, integrations, and infrastructure.
• Ensure builds are runnable, monitored, and supported by managed service teams.
• Support technical service transition with runbooks, operational criteria, and monitoring.
• Act as technical escalation point for complex incidents and root cause analysis.
• Manage technical debt backlog and incorporate remediation into sprints.
• Collaborate directly with product owners, QA, and client technical teams for refinement and demos.
