Senior Software Engineer (Backend/C#)

Xopero Software builds Backup & Disaster Recovery solutions including Xopero ONE, Xopero Unified Protection, and GitProtect, protecting IT environments, applications, and code repositories globally. Their clients range from small companies to global brands like T-Mobile, Avis, and Quest Diagnostics. The company has over 17 years of experience in data protection.

• Minimum 5 years commercial experience with statically typed languages such as C#, .NET, Java, Go, C++, Rust, or Kotlin.
• Experience maintaining products in production for over a year and evaluating technical decisions over time.
• Ability to diagnose production issues including performance, memory, I/O, and concurrency.
• Skilled in designing solutions balancing performance, cost, complexity, and timelines.
• Experience with containerized and orchestrated environments, e.g. Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases including modeling, query optimization, and data migrations.
• Good command of Windows and Linux to diagnose application behavior.
• Ability to work with legacy code and improve code quality incrementally.
• Understand observability principles including metrics, logs, and traces.
• Experience with unit and integration testing.
• Proficient with Git and working in trunk/feature branch workflows.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and critical evaluation of generated code.
• Accountability for delivering results, not just assigned tasks.

Nice to have:

• Experience with backup, storage, file systems, or recovery mechanisms.
• Familiarity with VMware or Hyper-V.
• Experience with S3 or compatible solutions.
• Working with external platform APIs such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Atlassian, GitLab, GitHub, or Azure DevOps.
• Participation in production on-call or post-incident analyses.
• Experience migrating key components or technologies in a running product.
• Close client collaboration in POCs, deployments, or technical escalations.
• Automation of repetitive tasks via CI/CD pipelines, operational scripts, or internal tools.
• Involvement in implementing AI-assisted development practices within a team.

• Take end-to-end ownership of a selected area in the product, from architecture to production behavior.
• Analyze client and user problems and challenge requirements.
• Make informed technical decisions balancing performance, cost, complexity, time, and technical debt.
• Develop new backup sources, restore features, integrations, and assess feasibility and risks.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues related to performance, memory, I/O, concurrency, and reliability.
• Improve product stability, performance, and observability for easier maintenance and monitoring.
• Maintain and incrementally improve existing codebases.
• Prepare areas for future application on-call duties by managing metrics, logs, tracing, alerting, and runbooks.
• Conduct code and design reviews and mentor less-experienced engineers.
• Collaborate in creating and enforcing software development standards.
• Utilize AI tools in daily development responsibly, ensuring code quality and ownership.
