Senior Database Administrator

Svitla Systems Inc. is recruiting for a Senior Database Administrator to work full-time supporting a technology-driven financial services company providing digital payment solutions. The platform facilitates secure payment acceptance and management for businesses of varying sizes, enhancing their digital operations.

• Minimum 5 years experience as a Database Administrator or Database Reliability Engineer.
• Deep expertise in relational databases such as MySQL, including replication, partitioning, and high-availability configurations.
• Solid experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Redis.
• Experience operating databases on AWS (RDS, Aurora) or similar cloud-managed services.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using SQL, Python, Bash, or similar.
• Experience with database observability using monitoring and alerting tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch.
• Experience with AI-assisted tooling (e.g., AI-powered query advisors, LLM-based copilots).
• Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex performance issues in transactional systems.
• Ability to articulate, implement, and document design decisions regarding data modeling and architecture.

Nice to have:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Experience in fintech or payment processing systems with PCI DSS compliance.
• Experience with database change management and CI/CD for schema migrations (e.g., Flyway, Liquibase, gh-ost).
• Familiarity with data warehousing, analytical databases, or streaming platforms such as Kafka.

• Own database architecture and strategy end to end, collaborating across engineering teams.
• Design and implement scalable, highly available, fault-tolerant database solutions for payment workloads.
• Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and schema changes with minimal downtime.
• Build and maintain automated database provisioning, backup, and recovery pipelines using Infrastructure as Code tools.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through query optimization, indexing, and capacity planning.
• Leverage AI-driven tools for anomaly detection, predictive tuning, and automated root cause analysis.
• Implement and manage database monitoring and alerting using tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Design and enforce database security policies including encryption, access controls, and audit logging.
• Lead incident response for database outages and conduct root cause analysis and postmortems.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Proactively tackle complex data challenges and simplify data architectures.
