Senior Ruby Developer

A well-established online travel company based in the Netherlands operating its own in-house platform for customers to find and book affordable holidays, including package deals, flights, and hotels. The company uses a combination of on-premises infrastructure and Google Cloud Platform to host applications.

• 5+ years of commercial experience with Ruby
• Strong, hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails, including recent versions (Rails 7/8)
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ideally running Rails applications on it
• Solid knowledge of relational databases and SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Experience writing automated tests with RSpec or Minitest
• Proactive, ownership-driven approach and ability to work autonomously
• Upper-Intermediate English or higher

Nice to have:

• Experience migrating applications from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud
• Experience in travel, e-commerce, or booking platforms
• Experience with background job processing (Sidekiq, Solid Queue) and caching (Redis, Solid Cache)
• Experience with Hotwire (Turbo, Stimulus) on the frontend
• Experience upgrading Rails applications across major versions
• Experience with Docker and infrastructure as code (Terraform) on GCP
• Experience integrating with external APIs (suppliers, payment providers)
• Experience mentoring or onboarding other engineers

• Design, build and maintain features in a Ruby on Rails 8.1 application serving real customer traffic
• Take ownership of key areas of the platform from design through to production
• Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, and technical planning
• Improve reliability, performance, and maintainability, including refactoring legacy parts
• Support deployments, monitoring, and production troubleshooting
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party travel suppliers and internal services
• Promote automated testing, CI/CD, clear documentation, and sensible upgrade paths
• Partner with product and business stakeholders to turn requirements into technical solutions
