Lead Software Engineer (Java)

This role is within Mastercard's Open Finance Europe, responsible for building and operating scalable API connectivity to financial institutions across Europe. The Mastercard Developers team provides a gateway for Mastercard partners to access a diverse range of payment, data, loyalty, and security APIs. The team focuses on delivering developer-friendly experiences, enabling quick API discovery and integration into innovative solutions for a global audience.

• Strong skills in Java or Kotlin, with extensive experience building robust, scalable, and maintainable backend systems using Spring Boot.
• Experience in architecting and delivering complex web applications and leading engineering efforts.
• Care about technical architecture and design to ensure flexible, efficient, and highly scalable solutions.
• Hands-on coding, conducting design and code reviews, and mentoring engineers.
• Proven experience designing and implementing cloud-native applications, preferably on Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) or other cloud platforms.
• Experience working in an Agile environment with a global team supporting frequent production releases.
• Experience designing and delivering high-standard APIs and implementing API security models.
• Frontend development experience is a bonus.

• Design and develop technical solutions for global customers (internal and external).
• Ideate, scope, develop, deliver, test, and iterate features for the constantly evolving API platform.
• Contribute to Mastercard Open Source projects offering API client signing and encryption libraries.
• Ensure adoption of appropriate automation levels for build, deployment, configuration, validation, and monitoring.
• Collaborate with global technology, data, and operations teams to execute projects.
• Serve as subject matter expert for the API platform and services to support customer integrations when needed.
