Mid/Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

West Code is building a new engineering team for a greenfield international gaming platform focused on payments orchestration and integrations with external payment providers.

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong Java and Spring Boot skills
• Experience with microservices and distributed systems
• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging platform
• Knowledge of REST APIs and external system integrations
• SQL / PostgreSQL or similar relational database experience
• Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working with production systems
• Good English communication and ability to work independently

Strong Advantage:

• Hands-on experience with payments, payment gateways, PSPs or fintech
• Experience with payment orchestration, provider adapters or routing logic
• Knowledge of idempotency, retries, callbacks, reconciliation or transaction state machines
• Experience with wallets, high-volume transactional systems, e-commerce or marketplaces
• Familiarity with iGaming, sportsbook or online casino
• Experience with Kubernetes and AWS
• Knowledge of Kotlin or Scala
• Experience with observability tooling like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana

• Build payment orchestration services with Java 21+ and Spring Boot 3
• Develop provider / PSP integrations and a consistent integration layer
• Implement transaction flows such as deposits, withdrawals, refunds, reversals, and status handling
• Create routing, retry, timeout and fallback mechanisms
• Ensure idempotency and duplicate-event protection
• Handle asynchronous callbacks / webhooks and event-driven flows
• Manage reconciliation and transaction-state consistency
• Build high-volume, highly available services with strong observability

Working Model:

• Cooperate under B2B contract
• Remote work from Poland
• Initial workshops in Kraków and quarterly onsite sessions
• Collaborate within an international team using English
• Deliver on a greenfield project with direct access to senior technical leadership
