Senior Backend Engineer – Java / Kotlin

West Code is a company focused on technology projects for banks, investment firms, and other financial institutions, specializing in high-volume financial systems and regulated environments.

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong skills in Java and/or Kotlin
• Experience with Spring Boot and microservice architectures
• Knowledge of Kafka or another event-streaming/messaging platform
• Experience building REST APIs and system integrations
• Proficiency in SQL and PostgreSQL or another relational database
• Experience with Docker and CI/CD
• Experience with production systems and incident/failure handling
• Good English communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take technical ownership

Nice to have:

• Commercial experience in banking, investment banking, capital markets, or other regulated financial environments
• Experience with high-throughput or latency-sensitive systems
• Knowledge of trading, market data, positions, risk, pricing, or post-trade systems
• Experience with core banking, ledger, or transaction-processing platforms
• Familiarity with distributed consistency, idempotency, and failure-recovery patterns
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Knowledge of observability tools like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or Grafana
• Experience working with security, audit, or regulatory requirements

• Build backend services using Java and/or Kotlin
• Develop Spring Boot-based microservices and APIs
• Implement event-driven and distributed systems
• Develop high-volume transactional and data-processing services
• Build integration layers connecting internal and external financial systems
