Software Engineer, Early Careers, PhD, gSoC Server Software

Google Cloud delivers enterprise-grade solutions leveraging Google’s technology to help developers build and digitally transform businesses worldwide. The Embedded/Firmware engineering team co-designs high-performance and secure SoCs, developing bootROMs and firmware/software drivers while collaborating with ecosystem partners for new SoC architectures.

• PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with software development in programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript.
• Experience with microcontrollers, embedded systems (registers, design sequences, RTL, verilog), and firmware development.
• Preferred: Experience with embedded Linux, Linux device drivers, Zephyr, BIOS, UEFI, EDK2.
• Familiarity with security firmware development.

• Contribute to implementing robust firmware code in C/C++, design sequences, simulators, and emulators for new features.
• Develop and maintain device drivers for SoC peripherals such as UART, I2C, SPI, and memory controllers.
• Focus on secure aspects of the boot process including Confidential Compute, Attestation, and Security.
• Participate in design activities and implement new BIOS features.
• Debug complex SoC issues using tools like in-circuit emulators, simulators, logging, and JTAG debuggers.
