Software Engineer, PhD, GCE Control Plane, Early Career

Google Cloud delivers enterprise-grade solutions leveraging cutting-edge technology to help developers build sustainably. The GCE Control Plane manages all Google Compute offerings and supports over 300 engineers across 15+ teams globally. The team focuses on improving reliability and accelerating developer productivity by developing tools, frameworks, and release processes for high-quality software delivery.

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with infrastructure automation, cloud platforms (particularly Google Cloud/GCE), CI/CD systems, or building/maintaining large-scale testing/staging environments.
• Preferred: 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Preferred: Experience developing accessible technologies.

• Design, build, and maintain integrated tooling and core infrastructure for GCE engineers to rapidly develop and validate changes before staging.
• Partner with development teams to support workflows using frameworks such as BCT (Big Cluster Test), GCE Dev Clusters, and the Munchkin hermetic testing environment.
• Prioritize developer experience by maintaining a reliable, efficient, and high-performing platform.
• Promote operational excellence by implementing robust monitoring and automation.
• Shape the strategic roadmap of the platform by applying Google's proprietary technology to evolving GCE development requirements.
