Staff Software Engineer, Flume ML

Google Cloud develops next-generation technologies impacting billions of users, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile. The team manages a planet-scale data processing infrastructure product that powers foundational ML features for YouTube, Search, and next-generation AI initiatives. The role involves leading a team dedicated to evolving distributed computing and advancing scheduleability and auto-tuning capabilities of data processing infrastructure to support massive-scale Machine Learning pipelines and standard data workloads.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including Java, C/C++, or Python.
• Experience developing and deploying large-scale distributed systems.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (preferred).
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms (preferred).
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction (preferred).
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects (preferred).
• Experience designing and implementing Machine Learning architectures (preferred).

• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
• Influence and coach a team of engineers.
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions.
