Big Data Engineer (Spark/Scala) – Finance/Banking

The role is for a client who is a leader in structured finance within the global banking industry, focusing on building a next-generation data platform to support complex business processes in finance.

• 3+ years of professional experience in big data engineering, ideally in banking or finance.
• Strong expertise in Apache Spark and Scala (or Java).
• Solid big data/data platform background, including working with large-scale datasets.
• Experience building reliable data processing jobs with a focus on scalability and resilience.
• Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
• Proactive attitude and effective teamwork across global or cross-functional stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across different time zones.

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of Airflow and Git.
• Experience with modern data architecture strategies.
• Experience delivering in Agile/Scrum environments in fast-paced delivery contexts.

• Design and develop solutions to collect, transform, and process large datasets efficiently.
• Analyze data from multiple sources and translate insights into technical specifications.
• Implement and industrialize reliable, scalable, and resilient data processing jobs using Spark and Scala (and/or Java).
• Conduct code reviews and collaborate with team members to improve code quality and engineering practices.
• Contribute to agile teams delivering value through Scrum cycles.
• Stay up-to-date with evolving big data technologies and apply best practices to the platform.
• Support applications in production, troubleshoot production issues, and maintain high quality standards.
• Produce comprehensive technical documentation, test plans, and project artifacts.
