Software Engineer III, Site Reliability Engineering

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) at Google Cloud involves building and running large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems to ensure reliability and uptime appropriate to customer needs. The role is part of the Technical Infrastructure team responsible for developing and maintaining data centers and Google platforms, focusing on optimizing systems, building infrastructure, and automating work.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, or Systems Engineering managing infrastructure.
• Experience developing automation and tooling using Go, C++, or Bash.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience navigating large source code bases including user applications, system libraries, kernel, drivers, and firmware.
• Experience with advanced distributed monitoring and alerting systems.
• Experience managing CI/CD pipelines and complex software release rollouts.
• Experience maintaining large-scale production systems across multiple data centers.
• Experience with Linux Kernel, Linux User-Space, and Memory/CPU management.
• Experience with TCP networking, virtualization, and containerization.

• Work with multiple stakeholders within Platforms Infrastructure Engineering (PIE) SRE and platform/kernel teams.
• Ensure safety, reliability, availability, and performance of new hardware platforms throughout their lifecycle.
• Drive understanding of production reliability into platform design and development through consulting, model development, and automation.
• Own characterization and qualification of new platforms to improve reliability.
• Develop per-platform capability-focused service level objectives (SLOs), monitoring, and alerts to maintain coherency despite platform heterogeneity.
