Software Engineering Manager, Android Automotive AI/ML

Google is hiring a Software Engineering Manager to lead teams developing platforms and services for Android Automotive, integrating Google's ecosystem into vehicles. The role involves managing engineering teams focused on low-level system architecture, application development, and back-end systems within the automotive industry.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
• 3 years in a technical leadership role overseeing projects.
• 2 years in people management or team leadership.
• Experience with object-oriented development focused on embedded systems or Android platform engineering.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 3 years experience in cross-functional or cross-business projects.
• Experience leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Experience in automotive industry software development.
• Experience leading and shipping on-device Machine Learning products.
• Ability to collaborate, deliver results, and hire engineers.

• Set and communicate team priorities aligned with broader organizational goals.
• Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
• Set clear expectations with individuals and provide regular performance feedback and coaching.
• Develop mid-term technical direction and roadmap for the teams.
• Design, guide, and vet system designs within the broader area.
• Write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
• Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
