Software Engineering Manager, Google Messages Wear

Google develops innovative software products across various platforms including desktop, mobile, and applications, impacting users worldwide. The role is within the Platforms and Ecosystems product area, focusing on computing software platforms and services at scale.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
• 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects.
• 3 years of experience in people management, supervision, or team leadership.
• Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Preferred: 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Preferred: 3 years of experience with Android application development.
• Preferred: Experience scaling a system from pilot/start-up phase to mature product.

• Set and communicate team priorities supporting broader organizational goals.
• Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
• Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role.
• Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance, development, and provide feedback and coaching.
• Develop long-term technical direction and roadmap within and beyond team scope.
• Oversee system designs within the broader area.
• Review product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
• Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
