Senior Software Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering, Vertex AI 3P SRE

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE's role is to ensure reliability, uptime, and fast rate of improvement for Google Cloud's services. Vertex AI is Google Cloud's flagship AI platform supporting the entire ML lifecycle and third-party model deployments focused on GKE-based serving stack. The role is part of the Technical Infrastructure team responsible for the architecture behind Google products and platforms.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
• 2 years of experience leading projects and providing technical leadership.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• Experience with Load Balancing, high-availability, and scalable system design.
• Experience with Monitoring and Observability in cloud and cluster management systems such as Cloud Monitoring, Monarch, Automon.
• Experience with Performance analysis and optimization tools such as Dapper, pprof.
• Experience with cluster management systems and Google Cloud interactions.

• Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services from inception and design through to deployment, operation, and refinement.
• Support services before they go live through system design consulting, developing software platforms/frameworks, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
• Maintain services once live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and system health.
• Scale systems sustainably via automation and promote changes to improve reliability and velocity.
• Practice sustainable incident response and blameless post-mortems (Post-Mortem Examinations).
