Software Engineering Manager, Android Automotive AI/ML

Google is a global technology company involved in multiple domains such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, and large-scale system design. The role is part of the Android Automotive team developing platforms and services to integrate Google’s ecosystem into vehicles, collaborating with vehicle manufacturers in the automotive industry.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages, e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript.
• 3 years in a technical leadership role overseeing projects.
• 2 years in people management or team leadership.
• Experience with object-oriented development focused on embedded systems or Android platform engineering.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 3 years experience in cross-functional or cross-business projects.
• Experience in automotive industry software development.
• Experience leading and shipping on-device Machine Learning (ML) products.
• Ability to collaborate, deliver results, and hire engineers.

• Set and communicate team priorities that support broader organizational goals and align strategy across teams.
• Set clear individual expectations based on roles and provide regular feedback, coaching, and development.
• Develop and evolve mid-term technical direction and roadmaps within team scope.
• Design, guide, and vet system designs and write code to solve ambiguous problems.
• Review peers' code to ensure adherence to best practices including style, testability, and efficiency.
