Software Engineering Manager, Google Messages Wear

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
• 5 years of experience in technical leadership roles including 3 years managing or leading teams.
• Preferred: Master's or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Preferred: 3 years experience in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Preferred: 3 years in Android application development.
• Preferred: Experience scaling systems from pilot/start-up to mature products.

• Set and communicate team priorities supporting broader organizational goals and align strategy across teams.
• Set clear expectations with individuals, conduct regular performance and development discussions, and provide coaching.
• Develop long-term technical direction and roadmap within and beyond your teams' scope.
• Oversee system designs in the broader area scope and review product or system development code for complex problems.
• Review code developed by engineers and provide feedback on best practices including style, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
