Senior Software Engineer, Pixel Kernel and Firmware

Google's Platforms and Devices team encompasses software platforms across desktop, mobile, and applications, as well as first party devices and services combining Google AI, software, and hardware. The team designs and develops new technologies to enhance user computing experiences globally.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products.
• 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• 2 years of experience working with the Android domain, embedded processors, Linux kernel, drivers, or BSP.
• Experience in embedded software/firmware architecture design, device driver/Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) development, Linux/Android system optimization.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with Linux Kernel, Linux Kernel Internals or Android Kernel.
• 3 years of relevant work experience including development, testing, and deployment for Android BSP, Linux device drivers, Linux kernel modules, or FreeRTOS drivers/modules.

• Develop and sustain the whole system software stack for Pixel devices.
• Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
• Develop Google System on a Chip (SoC) and the in-market devices system software kernel sustaining.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
