Engineering Lead Architect, Google Compute Engine, Sole Tenancy

Google Cloud develops next-generation technologies impacting billions of users worldwide. The Sole Tenancy team focuses on establishing Sole Tenancy as Google Cloud's premier "Host-as-a-Service" platform integrated with Google Compute Engine (GCE), enabling enterprises to optimize capital expenditure and achieve low total cost of ownership via Compute Pools. The platform strategy includes integration with GCE ecosystem features such as MIGs, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and Reservations, aiming for density supremacy, licensing optimization, and reliable whole-host management. Google Cloud serves customers in over 200 countries and territories, delivering enterprise-grade solutions leveraging cutting-edge technology.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of software development experience.
• 5 years in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 5 years designing, building, and testing large-scale distributed systems or infrastructure services.
• Preferred: Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders like Product Management and SRE.
• Preferred: Experience leveraging modern architectural patterns and system optimization/automation techniques.
• Preferred: Demonstrated ability to identify scaling bottlenecks, simplify legacy or complex codebases, and reduce operational chaos.
• Preferred: Proven thought leadership and innovation in complex problem solving.
• Preferred: Passion for mentoring engineers and leading design reviews.

• Define, scope, and take complete technical ownership of the team's functional space, turning business requirements into actionable technical plans.
• Set short- and long-term technical direction and architecture for the platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Maintain high individual contribution through writing clean, well-tested, and maintainable code.
• Lead design reviews and set engineering best practices.
• Act as primary escalation point for technical hurdles, resolving complex architectural bottlenecks.
• Mentor and guide engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and pairing.
