Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure, Google Cloud Networking

Google Cloud's software engineers work on projects critical to Google Cloud's needs with technologies in distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile. The role involves defining networking capabilities for large-scale cloud platforms, including Google's "Megaclusters" and AI/ML training workflows. Google Cloud provides enterprise-grade solutions and serves customers in over 200 countries and territories.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products.
• 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• Experience building or maintaining complex, high-concurrency systems with understanding of state, consistency, and scale.
• Engagement experience with the tech community through special interest groups, meetups, or collaboration platforms.
• Expertise in network virtualization, distributed systems, and modern protocols.
• Deep understanding of Kubernetes or containerised environments, including controllers, schedulers, and APIs at scale.
• Ability to pursue technical growth and explore unfamiliar technology areas.

• Own and lead the roadmap for Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Networking, evolving virtualization solutions for tens of thousands of nodes and beyond.
• Design and develop high-performance networking solutions optimized for large-scale model training, low-latency GPU communication, and autonomous agentic workloads.
• Lead the design of data plane and control plane elements to advance network connectivity, security, and service mesh technologies.
• Partner cross-functionally with GKE Platform and Cloud Networking teams to unify Google’s networking fabric.
• Act as a primary voice in the Kubernetes Open Source community, influencing standards and advocating GKE innovations at global forums, meetups, and technical summits.
