Software Engineering Manager, Google Messages, Data Analytics

Google's Platforms and Devices team develops computing software platforms across environments including desktop, mobile, and applications, integrating AI, software, and hardware to create innovative user experiences globally.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
• 2 years of experience in people management or team leadership.
• Experience integrating generative AI tools or Large Language Model (LLM) interfaces into workflows.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Experience in data engineering, data science, data platform engineering, or analytics.

• Set and communicate team priorities aligning with broader organizational goals.
• Set clear individual expectations, provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance discussions.
• Develop and evolve mid-term technical goals and roadmaps for multiple teams.
• Design, guide, and vet system designs across the broader area.
• Write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
• Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback ensuring best practices.
