Software Engineer (Ruby) – Senior

SOFTSWISS is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby) to join their Data Quality Platform team. They build and own a high-load Data Quality platform used company-wide, running millions of checks daily to detect and investigate data issues and improve data trust.

• Strong Ruby and Rails skills
• Experience developing and operating high-load production systems
• Deep PostgreSQL expertise including query planning, profiling, indexes, locking, transactions, concurrency, connection behaviour and performance tuning
• Strong SQL skills and ability to analyze complex data discrepancies across large datasets
• Experience with asynchronous systems including background jobs, queues, retries, idempotency, and failure recovery
• Experience designing complex backend systems from scratch and evolving them in production
• Hands-on production ownership involving metrics, logs, tracing, incident investigation and performance analysis
• Practical use of AI-powered developer tools for code navigation, prototyping, debugging, and reviewing
• Product mindset and entrepreneurial ownership to identify opportunities and drive delivery
• Intermediate or higher English language proficiency (B1+)

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with ClickHouse
• Experience with Delta Lake, Trino, Spark, or DuckDB
• Experience with Debezium or other CDC implementations, Kafka, data ingestion and transformation patterns
• Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Prometheus, Grafana, and production service operations
• Experience building side projects or launching product capabilities beyond assigned tasks

• Design and evolve core architecture of a high-load Data Quality platform running millions of checks per day
• Improve throughput, latency and reliability of orchestration, scheduling, dependency resolution, retries and mutation-driven reruns
• Profile and optimise PostgreSQL-heavy production workloads supporting approximately 4,000 RPS
• Lead backend migration of statistics and analytical workloads from PostgreSQL to ClickHouse
• Build and evolve product features around data quality coverage, table lineage, incident lifecycle and operational investigation
• Contribute to platform UI features when necessary using AI-assisted development workflows
• Own reliability and production behaviour of backend services including incident investigation and performance bottleneck diagnosis
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
• Help scale data quality adoption by improving integration, configuration and operation of checks
• Work directly with data producers, infrastructure and business teams
• Proactively identify and implement product, technical and operational improvements
