Engineering Manager (Finance)

Wakacje.pl operates within the finance systems domain, specifically handling the full money flow of bookings including payments, refunds, chargebacks, accounting, reconciliation, and settlements with tour operators. The role involves leading the Agile Release Train (ART Finance) responsible for these finance systems, including the merge of the Poland and Czechia finance teams into the ART. The company uses a tech stack mainly based on PHP, including legacy code and technical debt.

• 8+ years in IT with 3+ years managing Tech Leads or team leaders.
• Strong development background, preferably in PHP.
• Able to read code and judge trade-offs, but no daily coding required.
• Experience with relational databases (SQL), transactions, and data consistency.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools including Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of system design, integrations including REST APIs and payment providers.
• Experience in testing strategy, observability, and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
• Clear communication skills to translate between Finance stakeholders and engineers.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving under pressure.
• Proven teamwork and mentoring capabilities.
• English proficiency at B2+ level; fluent in Polish.

Nice to have:

• Experience with finance, payments, or accounting systems including payment providers, reconciliation, compliance.
• Familiarity with SAFe or other scaled agile frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with PHP and relational databases.
• Experience merging teams or systems after mergers, ideally across countries.
• Background in travel or OTA sector.

Delivery and Management:

• Deliver as an ART (Agile Release Train) including PI Planning, capacity management, dependencies, and risk management.
• Lead, grow, and manage Tech Lead Managers (TLMs) with goals, feedback, development, and succession planning.
• Hire for open leadership roles.

Operations:

• Run stable finance operations with SLOs, incident and escalation paths, 24/7 continuity, and audit readiness.

Technical Leadership:

• Set technical direction including standards for code review, testing, and observability.
• Own the technical debt plan for legacy systems.

Partnership:

• Collaborate with Product and Finance teams to translate business goals into measurable engineering objectives.
