Software Engineer III, Infrastructure, CNS2 Replication

Google's software engineers develop next-generation technologies used by billions globally. The Replication team manages the Placer product and CNS2 Asynchronous Replication, working on Google's internal exabyte-scale CNS filesystem, critical to services like YouTube, BigQuery, and Search. CNS2 features a location-agnostic namespace, native data replication, tiering, and regional placement policies. The Technical Infrastructure team supports Google's platforms by maintaining data centers and networks to ensure optimal user experience.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience in software development or 1 year with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
• 2 years experience with large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, networks, compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
• Experience programming using C++.
• Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with performance analysis, tuning, and optimization of complex systems.
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts like consistency, fault tolerance, replication, and partitioning.
• Familiarity with internals of storage systems, file systems, or databases.

• Design, develop, and test robust, scalable, and high-performance software for the distributed storage system, primarily using C++.
• Contribute to the technical design and implementation of new features and system improvements.
• Analyze and improve efficiency, reliability, and performance of the storage system.
• Debug and resolve complex issues in large-scale distributed environments, including production, collaborating with SRE teams.
• Write high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code and participate actively in code reviews.
