Senior Software Engineer - Search Algorithms - Elasticsearch

Elastic is a Search AI company providing cloud-based solutions for search, security, and observability, used by more than 50% of the Fortune 500. The role is part of the globally-distributed Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team focused on enhancing search experiences including contributions to Lucene.

• Professional experience with search or vector databases and algorithms such as HNSW, IVF.
• Solid skills in core Java, including data structures, concurrency, and lambdas.
• Ability to autonomously lead projects from design to development.
• Comfortable with collaborative development practices and code review.
• Experience with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven track record of using AI for development acceleration, debugging, and code optimization.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and manage shifting priorities autonomously via asynchronous and transparent communication.

• Lead initiatives to develop an industry-leading, fast, and relevant search engine.
• Build new search features and fix bugs in Elasticsearch.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Act as an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance and drive related improvements.
• Work with community members worldwide on issues and pull requests, triaging and handling them as needed.
• Write idiomatic modern Java code, as Elasticsearch is predominantly developed in Java.
