Mid Back-end Engineer (NodeJS)

SwingDev—a hippo company is the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company – Hippo Insurance. The company focuses on making home insurance smarter and more proactive using technology to deliver fresh solutions and digital products that support customers, emphasizing impactful development.

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Practical knowledge of at least one relational database system such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
• Capability to participate in software design and architectural discussions.
• Experience implementing testing strategies covering module, integration, and system tests.
• Strong team player with clear communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Responsible, accountable, and demonstrates strong ownership delivering high-quality software.
• Applies good security practices effectively.
• Willingness and readiness to learn and expand skill set according to project needs.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.
• Available for occasional meetings across different time zones, especially collaboration between Poland and US offices (Austin, San Francisco), approximately two evenings weekly on average.

Nice to have:

• Experience with data analysis and BigQuery.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus.
• Practical experience deploying real AI use cases.

• Implement backends and their interactions with various data stores and other APIs, including 3rd party APIs.
• Work in an agile environment focusing on projects impactful to the business.
• Support reliable databases and APIs for real-time automated decision-making.
• Deploy software using tools like Kubernetes clusters and AWS Lambda functions.
• Investigate and resolve production issues by analyzing code, data, and system behavior and implement timely fixes.
• Maintain a strong focus on security in all tasks and continuously improve data defense measures.
• Implement robust automated test suites ensuring high quality and low failure rate of delivered code.
• Write and review technical design documents to influence final designs.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Senior and Staff Engineers to understand business needs and translate them into high-quality code with automated tests.
• Develop programming skills and gain insight into tech business practices, especially related to the US market.
