Enterprise Architect

A strategically important mobile banking and payments platform with native Android and iOS applications, a substantial Java backend and an internally developed integration component. The current Java backend was originally conceived as a Backend-for-Frontend (BFF), but has accumulated significant business logic and exhibits monolithic characteristics. Business logic is also emerging in the integration component, creating risks around ownership, duplicated responsibilities and architectural boundaries. The assessment will establish an evidence-based view of the current architecture and define an incremental path forward rather than change for its own sake. The scope covers architecture and integration, business capability alignment, mobile/BFF interaction, security and cryptography, quality and operability, and governance/operating model.

• Enterprise Architect level experience with strong hands-on background in mobile and digital banking architecture.
• Deep understanding of native Android and iOS architecture, mobile security and mobile/backend integration patterns.
• Strong knowledge of API design, BFF patterns, domain boundaries, modularity and distributed system trade-offs.
• Experience with banking/payments journeys such as cards, payments, loans and contactless payments is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of security architecture, authentication, cryptography, biometrics and sensitive-data handling.
• Experience creating C4-style views, target/transition architectures, capability maps and architecture roadmaps.
• Ability to work at enterprise level: business capability alignment, ownership, governance and operating model – not only solution design.
• Strong stakeholder facilitation and executive communication skills in English.

• Lead assessment of native Android and iOS architecture, shared concerns and interaction with the Java BFF/backend.
• Map key mobile customer journeys and trace them through APIs, BFF, backend and integration layers.
• Assess whether responsibilities are placed in the appropriate layer and identify duplicated or misplaced business logic.
• Review API contracts, coupling, versioning, ownership and mobile-to-backend integration patterns.
• Assess authentication, device trust, cryptography, PIN, biometrics, key lifecycle and sensitive-data flows from a mobile architecture perspective.
• Review mobile quality attributes including performance, resilience, operability, observability, releaseability and maintainability.
• Contribute to the Business Capability Map by linking BT Pay capabilities and customer journeys to application/components and ownership.
• Define target and transition architecture for mobile/frontend/BFF, including intermediate states and migration guardrails.
• Contribute to architecture governance, decision rights, standards, exception handling and foundation-team responsibilities.
• Facilitate client workshops, review evidence and co-create recommendations with stakeholders.
