Chapter Lead Technology Specialist - Engineering

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years' experience in a similar role in an international environment.
• Expertise in one or more technologies listed in Functional Capabilities, or similar technologies, or the ability to learn them quickly.
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305).
• HashiCorp Terraform Associate Certification.

Nice to have:

• Experience in the FMCG industry.
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux Automation with Ansible (AU294) certification.
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500) certification.

• Experience in fast-paced environments with rapid release cycles and in Agile environments.
• Familiarity with ITIL, SCRUM, and DevOps; certifications or training are beneficial.
• Understanding of the Cloud Adoption and Well-Architected Frameworks.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, including IaaS, PaaS, and cloud-native services.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and knowledge of AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Experience designing and supporting Azure Enterprise Landing Zones using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), cloud governance, Azure Policy, Policy Compliance, and Effects.
• Knowledge of Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM), including identity, secrets, and certificate management, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and security best practices.
• Experience optimising cloud costs using Azure Hybrid Benefit, Reservations, Savings Plans, and Azure Advisor recommendations.
• Understanding of High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), backup, and business continuity solutions.
• Experience with Azure networking, including VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, and hybrid connectivity.
• Knowledge of automation, CI/CD, monitoring, and operational best practices.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Experience with automation and scripting using PowerShell and Python.

Cloud engineering:

• Oversee cloud infrastructure implementation in line with architectural guidelines and standards set by the Tribe Architect.
• Translate stakeholder requirements and user stories into technical solutions with the Global Cloud Team and Product Owner.
• Select, design, build, deploy, and maintain infrastructure automation using Infrastructure as Code, preferably with HCP Terraform, or with Azure Bicep, ARM templates, or AWS CloudFormation.
• Own technical quality for Global Cloud deliverables by driving engineering best practices, managing technical debt, identifying bottlenecks, and improving performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Support teams implementing shared solutions and set technical directions that meet quality and performance standards.
• Drive compliance and security controls for solutions deployed in public cloud environments.
• Orchestrate production incident resolution and support root cause analysis (RCA).
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks and manage support solutions and processes.
• Collaborate with development teams and external vendors on the integration and operation of cloud services.
• Work as a self-organising team member in an Agile environment and demonstrate product features to stakeholders during sprint reviews.
• Lead a community of practice to standardise cloud engineering best practices and promote an engineering mindset, such as “Security and Governance as Code”.

People leadership:

• Mentor engineers on cloud engineering best practices and support their career development, including progress toward cloud certifications.
• Conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings focused on individual performance.
• Assess performance against delivery and professional development priorities, such as reducing cloud security risks and optimising cloud spend.
• Provide continuous feedback on collaboration with other product teams, including security and application teams.
• Hire and onboard specialists and new hires on internal compliance standards, landing zone architectures, and risk mitigation.
• Advocate for the chapter’s needs and secure budget for cloud governance toolsets and continuous training.
• Monitor employee wellbeing, workload balance, and engagement, and take proactive action when support is needed.
• Support employees through organisational changes, transformations, and new ways of working.
• Act as an escalation point for people-related topics, conflicts, and development challenges.
