Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card)

Affirm is reinventing credit by creating transparent, flexible credit card products. The company is working with card issuers to develop innovative credit solutions that improve everyday transactions and large purchases. The role involves collaboration with teams based in Spain and Poland to revolutionize payment systems.

• Minimum of 4 years of software engineering experience.
• Experienced in designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with shipping frontend applications.
• Ability to define technical plans for major features or components with elegant, extensible design.
• Proficient in making significant changes in large code bases safely using appropriate tools and practices.
• Demonstrated ownership of personal growth through proactive feedback seeking.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration in a global engineering team.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguous problem-solving and ensuring support throughout delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during product lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and partnering on risk-aware decisions.
• Identify and advocate for resolving project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues, and participating in on-call activities.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting and advocating for code review and design standards.
• Develop team talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
